Interpretation
Kacey Musgraves is an up-and-coming country artist who’s had some excellent singles come out in the past year or so. Taken straight from her website, “A true language artist, Kacey nimbly spins webs of words to create the quirky puns, shrewd metaphors, and steely ironies that fill the record.” I personally find her music incredibly enjoyable! She says what she wants, what she feels (I find myself in her/her music). I DIG IT! Really looking forward to seeing more of her music in the near future.
This song is humorous, but completely true (check out the linked video by clicking on the photo above). “You’re damned if you do, and you’re damned if you don’t, so you might as well do whatever you want.” Hello…welcome to today’s society!! You will be judged regardless of any decision you make, regardless of whether is was the “right” one or not.
Who cares? Apparently everyone…and there are a good amount of people who don’t mind inserting their opinion wherever and whenever they feel necessary. I’m not saying I haven’t and don’t do this…I’m just saying, why do we care? Why are we so consumed in what everyone else is doing, wearing/not wearing, living, etc. I believe that our society and media hype have and will most likely forever shape how we live and see ourselves, and create this “standard” of living. This is sad, but it is what it is. So, I say…go forth with the attitude “who cares, follow your arrow!”
No matter what you do, there will always be someone on the other side telling you that you should have done it the other way or their way. Since when did we become so self-righteous?!
There’s just so much truth to this song, that I can’t even pick out my favorite part… I do get a kick out of the humor revealed in her music.
